Online ISBN and ISSN Allocation: Publishers and authors can now apply for International Standard Book Numbers (ISBN) and International Standard Serial Numbers (ISSN) through a streamlined online process, ensuring Uganda’s publications are globally recognized and accessible.
Digital Legal Deposit: The portal facilitates the submission of digital copies of published works, in compliance with the National Library Act, 2003. This ensures the preservation of Uganda’s literary output for future generations.
National Bibliography of Uganda: Explore an up-to-date, searchable database of publications compiled from legal deposits, promoting awareness and accessibility of Ugandan works.
Reference and Research Hub: Access a growing collection of digitized resources, including historical newspapers, government documents, research reports, and books on Uganda and East Africa.
User-Friendly Interface: Designed with accessibility in mind, the portal offers an intuitive experience for both walk-in users and remote visitors, with support for online applications and inquiries.
A Milestone in Digital Transformation
Launched on May 18, 2023, the NLU Management Information System (MIS)—powered by NITA-U—marks a significant step forward in automating library processes. This system enhances the efficiency of ISBN/ISSN issuance, legal deposit management, and bibliography compilation, making it easier for publishers and researchers to engage with the NLU. Hosted securely at the National Data Centre, the portal ensures robust performance and data integrity.
