Cybersecurity Consulting

Under the umbrella of its information security services, the National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) offers comprehensive Cybersecurity Consulting to all government bodies in Uganda. NITA-U is mandated to ensure the secure transfer of information across public and private sectors as the country transitions into an e-government era. Here are the key aspects of the cybersecurity consulting services provided by NITA-U:

  • Policy Formulation and Review: NITA-U assists in developing, reviewing, and updating cybersecurity policies tailored to the needs of government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This includes aligning with national security standards and international best practices to mitigate cyber threats effectively.

  • Risk Assessment and Management: NITA-U conducts thorough risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities within government IT infrastructures. They offer strategic advice on risk management, helping MDAs to prioritize cybersecurity measures based on the severity of potential threats.

  • Cybersecurity Audits: Regular audits are performed to ensure compliance with established cybersecurity frameworks. These audits help in identifying security gaps, providing recommendations for improvements, and ensuring that government IT systems are robust against cyber-attacks.

  • Incident Response Planning: NITA-U supports the creation and implementation of incident response plans. This involves setting up protocols for quick and effective responses to cybersecurity incidents, minimizing potential damage, and restoring services swiftly.

  • Training and Awareness Programs: Recognizing that human error is a significant security risk, NITA-U organizes workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns like the 'be safe online' initiative to educate government employees about cybersecurity best practices, threat awareness, and safe online behavior.

  • Support for CERT-UG: NITA-U operates the Uganda National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-UG), providing a centralized point for incident reporting, analysis, and response across government sectors. This service ensures that there's a coordinated approach to dealing with cyber threats at a national level.

  • Advisory on Information Security: NITA-U has operationalized the National Information Security Advisory Group (NISAG) to provide expert advice on Information Security Governance, Risk Remediation, and Response, ensuring that government bodies are well-informed and proactive in their cybersecurity strategies.

These services are integral to NITA-U's mission to safeguard Uganda's digital assets and infrastructure, ensuring a secure and reliable e-government environment.
